Sean talks it up with
The Source about a variety of topics including Dipset, The new iTunes Christmas hit with Kanye and Everybody, and he talks Good Friday.
Let's talk "Christmas In Harlem," how did this little early holiday gift come about?
I don't know, it really surprised me you know? I saw Kanye in New York at the most recent show he did. You know it was me, him, Teyana, and CyHi and I know they started it then. Basically how it got started was people just vibing out. The homie HitBoy provided the track. I recorded my verse with Pusha T in Virginia, me and him were both in VA at the time when he sent the song to get on. Its basically how things usually happen we send it back and he gives what he likes and doesn't like. Then we usually go over it a couple times and thats what it is.
So Kanye and Dipset put things aside?
Yeah man, the rap game is too small to have beef. We are grown ass men all money is green, so you might as well just put what ever you got to the side if it's not that serious. You know, unless it's just something that requires that much attention. The beef that was there was nothing. It's all fam it's all love, like Vado is my good homie.
The G.O.O.D Fridays sort of abruptly ended was there a reason?
They didn't necessarily end. Maybe it's just postponed. Maybe it's just one G.O.O.D Friday that's just late as hell.
What was your favorite G.O.O.D Friday?
Probably "Looking For Trouble." I also like the track titled "GOOD Friday," actually I liked all of them but probably "Looking For Trouble."
Any big plans for 2011?
You could expect quality, a new movement something fresh. You get your whole life to work on your first album, I'm just excited to shock the world with that. A lot of G.O.O.D Music were taking over and it is what it is.
How is the debut album coming along?
The album is crazy G.O.O.D Music/Def Jam. No ID did a good seven songs on there production wise Pharrell is on there Ye' of course. Even some new producers people aren't that familiar with were still rounding it out. I'm really excited about it just cause of the emotion of it. It's honestly all about making the songs that makes you want to smoke, have fun, go out and laugh, cry, just all of the emotions, have sex whatever it is you enjoy doing. Its all about having music that could fit your movement, that could explain you move. That's the type of music that I try and make people could live to. Definitely good ass raps on there too.
You've come along way from signing with Kanye, to where you are now. Is it a trust thing for Kanye giving you a little more love and ground to play with?
Man it's crazy. Just the whole fact of being on G.O.O.D Music. What your saying is exactly right, when Kanye first signed me I was fairly young. He saw the potential in me and not what it was. He saw the inspiration and the talent so he developed me and I developed on my own, being through so much. I felt a progression and he felt a progression. With this latest body of work I put out, Finally Famous Volume 3 BIG, after he listened to that he called me to hit me up and tell me "Yo your one of the best." He was really blown away and super excited about the new editions to G.O.O.D Music with Pusha T and CyHi. You right man, I feel like he feels like it's time and I feel like its time for me as well.
You've matured your delivery by stepping away from the "Supa Dupa" flow.
I really feel like just now I got to the point where I've come into my own artistry. I just now got my own ad-libs and my own flow and my own style. It's still learning and taking it to the next level but now I feel like I'm comfortable to come out with the album, and I feel like its the perfect time. All those hard times I went through are disappearing in my music and you can hear the hunger in all my verses. Wether it's just messing around or a serious track the hunger is there.
Can we get a little insight on Jay-Z and Kanye's Watch The Throne?
Its going to be CRAZY! I can tell you its for real and its really going on no rumors, they got a bunch of tracks already.
Wiz Khalifa and Rick Ross on the cover of The Source, any chance we hear those two on a track with you in 2011?
Wiz thats my homie were definitely working on it you'll hear that hopefully soon. Me and Rick Ross as well. Make sure to check out the Ashes To Ashes mixtape December 24th.
Were you apart of that?
Well maybe maybe not haha!
Lastly, with the holidays coming up, What is the one thing you want for Christmas?
What do I want for Christmas is Nicki Minaj... Nicki Minaj ... I mean that and I definitely want a good christmas for my family and friends but if your talking about pure gifts, definitely Nicki Minaj.
