E.Bushido x Weekly Mock Interview

Our RM affiliate does an interview with The Weekly Mock. E. Bushido speaks on Relevant Mindset, Counter-Culture, "Killer Tofu," and more. Catch the whole interview after the jump.

This week’s interview features hip hop artist E. Bushido. He’s currently working on his upcoming mixtape KATANA OVERTURE (K.O.). Weekly Mock was lucky enough to talk to E. Bushido about his music and future plans. Check him out on twitter @EBushido
Firstly thanks for your time to carry out this interview. So can you give me a background to E. Bushido?

No problem, thank you for having me. Without giving you too much, Bushido means “the way of the samurai (warrior)”. It was an everyday code that they lived by made up by 7 main principles, like courage and honour amongst others. I believe in these virtues and try to live by them every day as best I can within reason.
What inspires you when writing your lyrics?

My biggest inspiration is experience: things that I’ve seen, things that I’ve gone through, things that people around me have gone through. Also just watching my surroundings, paying attention to society. My goal with my music is to get people to act on their desires and ambitions and try something new. Life is short, have fun while you’re here, learn something, try to leave something behind when you leave. We’re too busy trying to follow other people’s “plans” instead of doing what feels right to us.

I heard “Killer Tofu” thought it was a real good track from your upcoming mixtape KATANA OVERTURE (K.O.). Have you finished the mixtape yet or still working on it?
Appreciate it. It’s almost finished I have just a couple more tracks until it’s completed, look out for it around Labour Day.

What was it like working on KATANA OVERTURE (K.O.)?
It was fun. It’s been a long process, many ups and downs. I’ve probably recorded about 15 tracks that won’t make the cut, so I’ve been picking and choosing and seeing what fits. I’m ready to be done with it though haha.

How would you describe the overall vibe and style of the mixtape?
It’s what I like to call a moving mixtape. It moves from one emotion to another from track to track. I’ve released few of the tracks on www.relevantmindset.net so you can see for yourself. There’s “The Road” then I have “Killer Tofu” then I have “Samurai” and “Herbal Chai”. I like to have variety with my tracks and show my versatility.

You also featured on a compilation mixtape (Counter-Culture Vol.1). Did you enjoy working on that?
Yes I did. “The Road” and “Herbal Chai” were both featured on there and I think people really enjoyed the tape. Baz from Relevant Mindset put together a great collection of songs from artists I respect and put out great music.

Out of the current hip hop artists who do you like listening to?
Mainly I listen to two of my homies Kyoto Jones and Spiz who y’all need to check out, I listen to Lupe, NERD, Kanye, I like what Kendrick Lamar is doing. I try to stay away from mainstream music though. I’m trying to create tracks that aren’t your typical everyday rap songs, so I try to refrain from listening to that.
Other than your upcoming mixtape what else can we expect from E. Bushido in the future?
Definitely some videos are on the way. Also anyone in the Philly area will be able to check me out at the first official Relevant Mindset Concert, details to come. What you can expect is for me to continue to get better and raise some eyebrows in the hip hop community in the next couple years.

Is there anything you want to mention or shout out before the end of the interview?
I want to thank you Tom for reaching out for the interview. I want to thank Baz and relevantmindset.net for believing in my music and having me as a featured artist on the site. And i want to thank all the listeners who’ve downloaded my tracks and will be back to download my mixtape. Lastly, make sure to follow me @EBushido on twitter.
