2013 seems like it will be a promising year for hip-hop. With rising new stars in the game guaranteed to release projects this year, as well as some rap vets, there will be some dope music in any individual's iTunes this year. With that being said, Relevant Mindset ranks the top seven hip-hop albums to look forward to in this coming year.
Big Sean definitely had a crazy 2012. The G.O.O.D. Music artist had multiple platinum singles, and was voted in by MTV at #6 for their hottest MC's of 2012 list. This year, Big Sean will be releasing his sophomore album Hall Of Fame that has confirmed features of Common, Lil Wayne, Nas, KiD CuDi, Juicy J and Kanye West. These alone guarantee that it will be a dope album. Look out for the LP around late springtime 2013.
#6. Earl Sweatshirt - Doris
Odd Future's Earl Sweatshirt is back. The free Earl movement worked, and the young OF artist is killing it so far in 2013. He has been on Odd Future's Adult Swim show Loiter Squad, made headlines at SXSW 2013, and has released two singles with dope visuals, both reaching millions of fans. His upcoming album, Doris, will definitely feature his single "WHOA" with Tyler, The Creator, and will probably feature "CHUM" as well. Good things only await for the young MC, and the album will be a success.
#5. Fabolous - Loso's Way 2: Rise to Power
Loso will be releasing his sequel to Loso's Way, which will be his sixth studio album as well in this year of 2013. Loso's Way 2: Rise to Power has a lot of hype on the net, and has confirmed features of Future & Rick Ross, as well as Fab "reaching out" to Nas and Kendrick Lamar for features as well. With a May 2013 expected release, any hip-hop fan can be excited for this project.
#4. Tyler, The Creator - WOLF
Tyler, The Creator has been running the internet via hip-hop so far this 2013. He released his self directed video for his track "Domo 23" and is close to reaching 3 million views for the visual already. The hype behind the album WOLF has been ridiculous as well. Twitter nearly exploded with WOLF and "Domo 23" both trending when he released the album details along with the first video. His personal promotion has been great this year as well, with his new Mountain Dew Ad being talked about heavily, as well as his very successful television show with Odd Future, Loiter Squad. The album has rumored features of Frank Ocean, Dave Mathews, Earl, & Erykah Badu which will all be great. Expect the album in April or May of this year.
#3. Kid CuDi - Indicud
Kid CuDi has released some excellent music so far off of his upcoming album Indicud. "Just What I Am" featuring King Chip, produced by Kid CuDi, "King Wizard" produced by Kid CuDi, & "Immortal" produced by Kid CuDi have all become anthems already. Another confirmed track is "Solo Dolo, Part II" that will be featuring Kendrick Lamar and will be produced by Kid CuDi as well. The album will be extremely promising, and will have fans very satisfied when it drops later this year.
#2. J.Cole - Born Sinner
J.Cole's sophomore LP has been very anticipated. So far, Cole has released "Miss America" in November 2012, and recently released a single with Miguel called "Power Trip" that has been rising up the charts. Back in February 2013, he released a miraculous EP project called Truly Yours, that offered excellent music, stories, and production. Cole's Born Sinner is set to release around June 2013, and will be a great album to look forward to and listen to when it is finally released.
#1. Drake - Nothing Was the Same
There really isn't much to say when it comes to Drake and music. The Toronto artist has probably the biggest buzz out of any artist in any genre right now, and can make a trending topic out of a ten second snippet. He released his mega single "Started from the Bottom", and video earlier this year, and they both have been receiving extreme recognition. The single, produced by Mike Zombie, has been remixed dozens of times by famous artists already, and has been the anthem for Winter 2013 in the hip-hop world. Drake also released a street single called "5 AM In Toronto", that had the internet going nuts as well. Though there is no release date for Drake's third studio LP Nothing Was the Same, one should expect it this Summer 2013, up to October 2013.J.Cole's sophomore LP has been very anticipated.
